What Can Cause Problems with My Implant? While 95-98% of implants are completed successfully, there is still the chance for trouble. For example, you could experience failed osseointegration. This is just a big fancy term for your implant falling out. This means that there was a problem with the structure fusing to the bone in your jaw. Some possible reasons for this can include everything from improper bone density to issues with the anesthesia you were under during your procedure. You could also have a failed implant if you don't take care of it, or there is an infection.
Infections can lead to bone loss which can mean the implant must be removed. This is particularly true for smokers; whose risk of oral infections is significantly higher. You might also experience an issue if the tissue or the nerves surrounding the implant were irritated during the procedure, which can lead to chronic pain on one extreme or constant numbness on the other. There are many other issues that can lead to the loss of your implants, such as issues with loading the crown, sinus problems, or issues with bodily rejection or the implant itself. However, in many cases, there can still be a solution.
We Can Try AgainIf you did not catch the problem in time and the implant had to be removed rather than the problem remedied, after a sufficient heal time, we can try again. Sometimes trying again means that we have to go through with a bone graft to build up strength in the bone again, but it can be done. If we are confident that we can solve the problem, we can try again to get you back in tip-top shape. You must just be sure to take great care of your implants after the procedure is complete!
