Wisdom Teeth Stem Cells
Healthy, viable stem cells are naturally found throughout your body—even in your teeth. They are found in abundance and play an essential role in the body’s natural healing process. Thanks to modern medicine and research, stem cell applications and therapies are underway in the hopes of curing various ailments and diseases. Since stem cells are found inside dental pulp, a wisdom tooth extraction procedure presents a unique opportunity to bank those stem cells that would otherwise be discarded as medical waste.
Canyon Oral & Facial Surgery is excited to partner with Stemodontics® to provide patients with a safe and convenient method to bank their dental pulp stem cells. Learn more about stem cells, stem cell banking, and Stemodontics by visiting the Stemodontics website.
What Are Stem Cells?
Stem cells repair and restore tissues throughout the body. They are essential to the body’s natural healing process because they can become any type of cell the body may need. Other cells can only become and repair like cells (for example, nerve cells can duplicate into new nerve cells). The full scope of stem cell’s therapeutic applications is still unknown, but their ability to become any type of cell is why medical experts and researchers are working to unlock the full potential of these powerhouse cells.
Why Bank Stem Cells?
Stem cells are everywhere in the body. However, the aging process decreases the quality and quantity of these cells. Patients interested in banking their stem cells are encouraged to consider doing so when they have their wisdom teeth extracted for two main reasons: wisdom teeth extraction patients tend to be younger, and this is a rare time when multiple healthy teeth are extracted at once. Both of these reasons offer a better chance of preserving as many healthy stem cells as possible.
Canyon Oral & Facial Surgery cares about the health and safety of their patients, even after treatment. As a proud partner of Stemodontics, we want our patients to make an informed decision that they can feel good about. Let us know if you have any questions about stem cell harvesting and preservation—we are happy to help!
